The seeds are fresh, from the 2025 crop.  Collected from northern Indiana trees.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGinkgos are one of the oldest known tree species, with their leaves preserved in 290 milllion year old fossils. Ginkgos are native to China and have unusual fan-shaped leaves. In the fall the leaves turn and extremely bright yellow, then all fall off at once, leaving a yellow carpet under the tree.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGinkgo trees are popular with bonsai growers.  They also make conspicuous specimen accent trees for the yard or garden. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn the fall the leaves turn a spectacular bright golden yellow color.  Then, the leaves all fall off at once, leaving a golden carpet under the tree.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGinkgo seeds must be cold-stratified to break their winter dormancy, allowing them to germinate in the spring. All the bits of pulp should be removed before stratifying. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSoak them overnight in water, then seal in a plastic bag and store for about 2-3 months in the refrigerator.  Check regularly for mold or mildew and rinse it off if you see it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDuring stratification, the seeds should stay moist, but not soaking wet.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCheck the seeds regularly to make sure they don't dry out.
